Every festival season, Le Bureau Export — the French music export office, now part of the Centre National de la Musique — faced the same problem: hundreds of international bookers, promoters, and journalists arriving at a festival with no idea which artists were worth their afternoon.
The answer was a roadbook. For each event, I created an interactive PDF that gave our selection of best French acts on the lineup, with show time, venue, photo, and a short bio making the case for going to see them.
Every entry ended with the artist’s label and booking agency contacts, so a promoter who liked what they heard could get in touch with the right people after the set was over.
Both digital and print formats had to work — some people took a paper copy to the festival for note taking, others just kept the PDF open on their phone — so the layout had to hold up on A4 and on mobile.
Each program was produced in partnership with the festival itself, so it could take on the host event’s own visual identity.
